Tables for MS Access 2007
Go here to
Create a Table in VBA
Assuming you do not have a New Database we will go through Creating a New Database using MS Access 2007 and then designing a basic table in Design View. While I will show you where to set the data types, I will not expand on them in this tutorial. If you know how to create one already skip ahead. You can also create a blank one using the Right Click menu in any open folder. If you use the Right Click method you can skip ahead as well.
First you need to start MS Access 2007. You should be able to access the MS Access 2007 shortcut from either your desktop or your Start bar. Once started you will be presented with the following screen:
In the above picture you can see “Getting started with Microsoft Office Access” in large fonts. Just below that you will see in small fonts “New Database” and what looks like a Spread Sheet with the top right corner folded down. Below the Spreadsheet picture is the Words “Blank Database”. Click the Spreadsheet now. When done you will be presented with the following on the bottom right of your screen:
Enter a file name or use the default Database1.mdb or Database1.accdb. You will see the extension mdb if you choose, via Access Options by way of the Office Button, to use an older file format by default. Once you have decided on a file name click the Create button and a new blank database will be created..
In the above picture you can plainly see that MS Access 2007 will create a
blank database and immediately will open an empty Table with a Field called ID.
You can create New fields from here if you wish. I will not however and will
Right Click the Table named Table1 and select Design View.
From here you are presented with a Save As Message Box that will let you Rename
your new Table. I leave the Name Table1 in my example. You can Name the Table
whatever you wish, no more than 64 Characters. Keep in mind, like past
versions, MS Access 2007 does not allow the usage of certain Characters. Click
OK once you have decided on a Name for the Table.
Now you should see a similar picture above on your desktop. The Arrows in the
Above picture point out several Things. From 1 to 6 going Arrow to arrow:
1 Under the Heading All Tables is your Table named Table1 in my example.
2 Under the General Tab you can set some options
3 Such as indexing your Fields
4 Under Field Name you can enter in New Fields, No more than 64 Characters
5 You can the Select their Data types
6 Then Enter in their Descriptions should you choose
When done close the table and MS Access will prompt you to save. Click Yes.
When complete you can now Double Click your Table and begin entering new data.
